Unnatural Links Tool, FaceBook Attacked, Apple iWatch, Speedlink 07:2013

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great week. This week, Matt Cutts on Google Webmaster Help channel, published a video that addresses an excellent question about unnatural links. If you are a tidbit interested in SEO, you should know that “unnatural links” is something you would want to steer away from, as it has a big impact in your search rankings. Google has been sending out warning messages from their webmaster tools about this issue, and one problem was that there was no way of “finding out” what these links actually are. Anyway, according to Matt (which he says is excited about), they are rolling out a new feature that will provide a bit more of insight as to what type of links may be hurting your site. He does give some hints, such as, widget links, bunch of “keyword” anchor text on article marketing (directories?), and obviously, paid links. This is actually good, because with a bit more of information, you can safely use the “disavow links” feature, as well as reaching out to webmasters to remove links that supposedly Google does not trust.

Which links to remove when I get an “unnatural links” message?

On a different front, it was FaceBook that this week announced they were a victim of a “sophisticated attack”, but assures and reassures that no data has been compromised. Last week it was Twitter, oh well. Although the announcement was made this week, it appears that the attack was actually made last month. In any event, one interesting bit about this announcement is a perfect example of how a “negative” can be turned into a “positive”. Facebook’s official announcement mentions…

Facebook was not alone in this attack. It is clear that others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well. As one of the first companies to discover this malware, we immediately took steps to start sharing details about the infiltration with the other companies and entities that were affected.

Finally, VentureBeat reports an interesting article that speculates (or not) on why Apple has been “leaking” rumors (something they are not known to do) about the so called iWatch. The report suggest that it is because Samsung is actually releasing its SmartWatch. Hmmm, another battle in the making?

That’s it! Enjoy, have a great weekend!
