Speedlink V20/2011, Twitter, Plus One, Social Web, Online Business

Hi everyone. This week many bloggers and news websites have mentioned about the +1 button of Google which as you might already know, can now be installed almost anywhere. According to Google, the +1 button can help publishers, as when potential visitors see recommendations from their friends and contacts beneath your Google search results, you could see more, and better qualified, traffic coming from Google. Obviously it is too early to actually see, what (if any), real benefits the +1 button can bring. I suspect that this may be also another attempt from Google to jump in the Social Arena. We’ll see. Have you installed your +1 button yet? What benefit do you think will the +1 bring for users?

Anyway, in no particular order:

Why do porn Adult sites have lower PageRank?

That’s it! Enjoy and have a great week ahead.

  • A twitter follow button? I’ll be reading that one first. πŸ˜‰

    • Yep, that’s the one that caught my eye as well πŸ˜‰

    • Sorry for the delay in responding. So that follow button caught your attention πŸ™‚ Did you find it interesting?

      • Thanks for the reminder, I completely forgot to come back and read it…I’ll be back to let you know. πŸ˜‰

  • Thanks for the great link listed. I will follow all tips you mention above

  • Yup the +1 is trending this week and it will continue for at least another week I guess. Interesting posts, I will check them out πŸ™‚

    • Hi Jane. You are absolutely right about +1. This week the recent announcement of Google’s acquisition of PostRank just consolidates whatever it is they are thinking of doing. Most certainly it has something to do with”gathering” user engagement and all that stuff. We’ll see.

  • Thanks for sharing all these links, about +1 button of Google I think that it can help your seo but it will not have any drastic effect!

  • Hi DiTesco, that’s an interesting question that Matt responded to but I the issue is pretty confusing. Here’s what I mean by that – if you have an adult site, you’re only comparing yourself to other adult sites. So if all of them have lower rank, they are all in the same boat right? I would think the real question would be related to search ranking – not page rank. Does that make sense?
On another note, thanks for including the guest post from Mitch, it’s a real winner!
I’m going to read the post about hashtags now and some others you listed later on.

    Talk to you soon πŸ™‚

    • Hi Ileane. Makes sense. Sometimes I wonder if PageRank is still important or not as while Google devalues it, Matt keeps using the “term” so it does confuse us somewhat. What I think happens to porn sites is that they are all filtered by Google search and most of the links are “between” them, thus being in the same boat like you said. However tere are some adult sites that get links from “news” sites for example that have high page ranks and yet it seems that they carry little value. Not sure I answered your question here πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by and sorry for the delay in replying

  • I am still experimenting with google +1 and twitter follow button. Not great results from any of them tilll now

    • Hi Torry. Those buttons being relatively recent should not have any “immediate” effect that one can measure in a short period of time. As a matter f fact, I do not even know what “effect” to expect from the +1, aside from the so many speculation out there. Be patient, keep putting out quality stuff and all these should give you some return in the near future πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by

  • Waiting patiently to see how the +1 button works. Thanks for sharing a lot of useful stuff here! Should keep me busy for a while.. πŸ™‚

    • I’m with you Ana. Really would like to know how this will play out πŸ™‚ Hopefully it will do something “good” for early adopters, so I just went ahead and installed it, lol. All the best

  • What a great question and great answer! I loved it.
In fact I also noticed that but could not kow the reason. That’s a proof that not all links are created equal.

    • Exactly. All links carry their on value and this is why PageRank still exists

  • I personally haven’t installed the +1 button yet as I am not sure how long this hype would last. If it becomes a successful release and almost everyone out there is using it, then I won’t mind installing it then.

  • Wow, this is a comprehensive list. Personally, I’m still not sure if I want to install the +1 on my site. Maybe if nearly everyone installs it would I reconsider putting it on my site.

  • Is the Twitter Follow button working? I tried doing a review of it for my blog when the button returned a link only when I inserted the code. Any idea why it wasn’t working. Perhaps it was just a glitch then. I did the test on Tuesday.

  • Loving the WordPress Junkies category of articles you have here. And that twitter follow button, I will try it out as soon as I get back!

  • Twitter is the best way to grab more and more visitors to your site by using so many legitimate ways offered from twitter’s partners. Ditesco also keep on sharing such tools and techniques with us to promote our business. Not sure how +1 will help users to locate the best sites on their searches, and how it would be beneficial for site owners, but it certainly shows Google how much trust a visitor have on this site. And that is how it would improve the ranking. Also +1 is a good way for Google to improve the number of profiles on it. As one need a Google profile to rank a site, and spammers will definitely make many.
