What is a vertical search engine?

A vertical search engine, to make it simple, is nothing more than a search engine, which normally focuses on providing information about a specific type of topic or web content. Using these type of search engines can be beneficial, as generally their results are more precise, due to the “targeted” scope of presenting search results.

For example, if you are searching for jobs, it is most likely that you will find more relevant results on a vertical search engine, rather than any other engine that focuses on more broader results.

This is where ToTheGo.com comes into play. An Italian based company which focuses on three specific markets, these being, jobs, cars, and real estate. Their service has recently been made available in the US and in the UK, and soon they will be rolling out to Europe and South America. The interesting part about  ToTheGo is that they “aggregate” results from different sources (3 million according to their latest information). That makes it easier than having to “hunt” for information related to the topic they focus on, on individual sources. ToTheGo is not a classified ads site, and users are always directed to the original source of information. They have a nice and clean interface and results are presented in a very organized manner, where you can filter your results on just about any way you can think of.

As you can see from the above results, clicking on the more info button will show you all pertinent information about what you are looking for, provided they are available from the source of information. You can further refine your search by using use the filtering options provided on the left hand side of their interface. You can also create alerts and subscribe to receive information as they arise.

ToTheGo is a relatively new vertical search engine and as with anything else, they are constantly refining their service to better serve users experience. So whenever, you are looking for cars, real estate deals and jobs, remember that you now have another option that may help you find what you are looking for.
