WordPress Thelonious Version 3.0 Released

Today, I have seen an awful lot of buzz on Twitter about the official release of WordPress Version 3.0. The much awaited WordPress 3.0 is now available for download or auto update in your current WP dashboard.

The Official Release Of WordPress Thelonious 3.0

Here is what they have to say:

Arm your vuvuzelas: WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard). Major new features in this release include a sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten. Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. (Twenty Ten theme shows all of that off.) Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. As a user, you will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click, and blah blah blah…..

Here is a video introduction of WordPress Thelonious

Should You Install Thelonious Right Away?

It depends, if you have been using the beta version like I did on some other blogs I have, and are satisfied with it, go ahead jump right in. If you are using the previous version, I would recommend to wait a couple of days before going crazy. As per my friends suggestion, Dave Doolin of WebSite In A Weekend, you should not install it right away but rather wait some days as these sort of updates normally can be easily replaced by newer versions with bug fixes that in some occasions were overlooked during a new release. Also, you might be using plugins that are not compatible with Thelonious and may be surprised and find out that they are not working. I think that this is a very good recommendation and I myself will wait a tad longer. Of course I am going nuts here but hey, the WordPress 3.0 version is not going anywhere, right?

Anyway, if you have already installed it, can you please let us know what your initial impressions are? Do you like the integration of MU and WP? How about the new standard theme? Your voices are appreciated.
